Baker Hughes said 3469 rigs were active last month compared
to 3662 in September 2011 and 3490 in August 2012.
The United States had 51 offshore rigs active compared to
only 32 this time last year, a 59% increase, but a fall in land rigs meant the overall country
count was down.
Canada had 40 more active rigs than August, but the tally of
356 was still significantly down on the year-ago period’s 510 active rigs.
Latin America, Asia Pacific and Europe saw activity slightly
decrease, while Africa and the Middle East posted increased monthly rig counts.
