The industry-supported survey aims to cover areas expected to form sector blocks in the country’s eagerly-awaited 11th licensing round due next May.
The Hawk Explorer has been contracted from SeaBird Exploration for a further two months to gather the offshore data, with the survey due to be completed in the fourth quarter.
Spectrum and SeaBird Exploration inked a new $30 million, four-year frame agreement in August that will replace the current $23 million deal due to be completed this month.
The seismic survey will be processed at Spectrum’s Houston operation and ready for delivery in the first quarter of next year, Spectrum said.
The latest sweep follows on from a 15000-square kilometre survey conducted earlier this year, and Spectrum says it now has 34,000 square kilometres of Brazil data altogether.
