EMGS in Shetland survey

The vessel Atlantic Guardian will gather both controlled-source electromagnetic and magnetotelluric data in an area covered by basalt layers, which are more difficult to interpret using conventional seismic, in the minimum three-week multi-client survey that is fully pre-funded.

“The objective of this survey is to improve the understanding of the basalt thickness and distribution and, ultimately, help to assess the hydrocarbon prospectivity of sediments below the basalt layers,” said EMGS chief executive Roar Bekker.

The use of such advanced survey techniques, in combination with seismic, is intended to improve subsurface imaging in areas of complex geology.
